International round-up: Fraser bags winner as Scotland go four points clear
Ryan Fraser continued his fine form during the international break by slotting home the winner as Scotland moved clear at the top of their UEFA Nations League group with victory over the Czech Republic.
The Newcastle United winger, who was handed the man of the match award against Slovakia last weekend, latched onto Lyndon Dykes’ pass to clip home the only goal of the game just six minutes into the contest.
It was another decisive contribution from summer signing Fraser, whose winner at Hampden Park put Steve Clarke’s men four points clear at the top of Group B2 and rounded off a fine fortnight for the Magpies man.
The victory also meant Clarke’s side have now gone eight games without defeat, while Fraser - who was replaced by Kenny McLean in the second half - now has two international goals to his name.
Jeff Hendrick was also in action on Wednesday, playing the opening 75 minutes of the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Finland.
Fredrik Jensen’s second half strike won it for the hosts, who have won five of their six home games in the Nations League.
Hendrick was replaced by Norwich City’s Adam Idah for the final quarter of an hour as Stephen Kenny’s side remained seven points shy of second place in Group B4.
And Emil Krafth was an unused substitute for Sweden as they were beaten 3-0 by reigning European champions Portugal in Lisbon.
A Bernardo Silva strike and a brace from Diogo Jota won it, with full back Krafth remaining on the bench as Sweden stayed bottom - and pointless - in Group A3.
Fellow defender Jamal Lewis, meanwhile, missed Northern Ireland’s 1-0 defeat in Norway through injury.
The defeat leaves Ian Baraclough’s side bottom of Group B1, with just one point to show from their four games so far.
