International Magpies: Glory for Gordon as England win Euros
The Premier League season may be over, but a number of Newcastle United players have been away with their countries during the summer break...

Saturday 10th June
England Under-21s 0 Japan Under-21s 2
St. George's Park
The January signing from Everton has been named in the England Under-21s squad for this summer's Under-21 European Championship finals.
Prior to being selected for the tournament by Lee Carsley, he started in a behind-closed-doors warm-up game at St. George's Park against Japan, who scored twice in the second half through Rihito Yamamota and Yuta Matsumura. Gordon was replaced by Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White on the hour mark.
Thursday 22nd June

Gordon played a big role as England opened their tournament with a victory, as the United man's neat flick set up Jacob Ramsey to break the deadlock early in the second half.
Gordon found the target himself, too, and thought he had made it 2-0 when he turned home Noni Madueke's centre, but his effort was disallowed for an infringement from Gibbs-White in the build up.
The former Everton forward was replaced by Cameron Archer with ten minutes left and Carsley's men went on to seal the points in added time thanks to a goal from Emile Smith Rowe, wrapping up a successful night for the Young Lions.

England booked their place in the quarter-finals with one group game still to play with another convincing win on Sunday night - and United attacker Gordon found himself on the scoresheet once more.
This time, though, it counted. Unlike Gordon's strike against Czechia on Thursday, which was ruled out, this time he wasn't to be denied as his perfectly-directed downward header from Gibbs-White's cross found the bottom right-hand corner with quarter of an hour gone.
Smith Rowe added his second goal in as many games after the break, seven minutes after Gordon had been replaced by Archer again on the hour, with Carsley's youngsters holding firm to take the pressure off their final group outing against Germany in midweek.
Wednesday 28th June

Another comfortable victory for Gordon and his side, with the Magpies man starting on the bench for this clash with Germany.
England, having already booked their place in the last eight, made a handful of changes for their final group game, but it mattered little as early first half goals from Archer and Harvey Elliott sealed the points and maintained their 100 per cent record in the competition so far.
Gordon came on for Archer with just over 20 minutes to go for a cameo appearance.
Sunday 2nd July

Gordon got the only goal of the game - an unerring first-time finish in the 34th minute - to send the Young Lions into the last four.
The Newcastle man played the full game and swept home from Gibbs-White's cutback shortly after the half-hour mark. England came under some second-half Portuguese pressure, but held on to set up a semi-final clash with Israel - who Gordon netted against in the group stages.
Gordon was named Player of the Match, to add to the two goals and assist during the competition.
Wednesday 5th July

England breezed past Israel to reach the final, and have yet to concede a goal in the competition.
Gordon started the game and came off in the 74th minute, with the Young Lions 2-0 up. He won a penalty in the 17th minute, which was missed by Gibbs-White.
However, Gibbs-White went on to open the scoring before Cole Palmer and Cameron Archer sealed a comfortable victory to help England reach the final of the competition for the first time in 14 years.
Saturday 8th July

The Young Lions won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship for the third time - and first time since 1984 - with Gordon playing for 83 minutes on an historic evening in Georgia.
He was involved in the only goal of the game, finding Cole Palmer in first-half stoppage time before the Manchester City youngster was brought down on the edge of the box. Palmer stepped up to take the resulting free kick, which deflected off Curtis Jones on its way into the net.
Gordon made way for Tommy Doyle in the closing stages as England saw the game out to lift the trophy thanks to a stoppage-time penalty save from James Trafford, who denied Abel Ruiz from the spot then blocked Aimar Oroz's follow-up to maintain his record of not conceding a goal throughout the competition.
And to top it off, Gordon was presented with the Player of the Tournament award. Congratulations, England, and congratulations Anthony!
Saturday 17th June

Saturday was a night to remember for Brazil debutant Joelinton, who netted his country's opener in their comfortable friendly win over Guinea in Barcelona.
The Magpies man - who had been called up by Brazil for the first time after his outstanding form for United over the last 18 months - turned home from close range following a corner to give the Seleção the lead, delighting Newcastle supporters who have watched him grow in influence in recent seasons.
Further strikes from Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Vinicius Junior made it a straightforward friendly win for Ramon Menezes' men.
Joelinton was withdrawn with 25 minutes remaining to allow his friend and United teammate Bruno Guimarães to enjoy a cameo appearance, with both now hoping to feature in another friendly against Senegal on Tuesday.
Tuesday 20th June
Brazil 2 Senegal 4

Tuesday night's friendly was an altogether less enjoyable outing for the Newcastle pair, who started alongside each other in midfield in Portugal.
Guimarães played the full game as Brazil were well beaten by a Sadio Mane-inspired Senegal side, while Joelinton was withdrawn midway through the second half on his second appearance for the national team.

Friday 16th June
Malta 0 England 4
Ta' Qali National Stadium
Full back Trippier played the full 90 minutes for Gareth Southgate's men as they earned a comfortable victory over Malta in their EURO 2024 qualifier, while Wilson found the target after entering the fray for the final half hour.
Replacing Harry Kane, the Magpies frontman slotted home an 82nd-minute penalty to wrapup the scoring for the Three Lions after his cross had been handled in the box.
In doing so, Wilson became the first Newcastle player to score for England since Michael Owen in 2007.
Monday 19th June

Old Trafford
It was a sensational night for the Three Lions at Old Trafford as Bukayo Saka's hat-trick helped them on their way to a resounding win over North Macedonia.
Harry Kane's brace and further strikes from Marcus Rashford and Kalvin Phillips made the scoreline even more impressive, with United forward Wilson replacing captain Kane for the final quarter of an hour - just missing out on the chance to take another penalty in the process, as it was dispatched by Spurs' Kane just moments earlier.
Trippier, meanwhile, remained on the bench throughout.
Sunday 18th June

Almirón signed off for the summer with a fine display as Paraguay beat Nicaragua in a friendly in Asuncion.
The Magpies wideman netted his side's first goal on 62 minutes, with Fabian Balbuena adding to Almirón's effort quarter of an hour later to complete a straightforward victory for the hosts.
Almirón played the full 90 minutes and, with no further Paraguay games until 2023/24, will now get a well-earned rest after a productive season for club and country.
Wednesday 14th June

Uncapped defender Botman missed out on an international debut as Croatia beat the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi-final in Rotterdam.
Botman - who also missed out on his first senior appearance for his country when he withdrew from the squad with illness back in March - remained on the bench at De Kuip as his side were comfortably dispatched in the last-four clash.

Young forward Kuol was a second half substitute for his country at their opening Group B game in the Maurice Revello tournament in France.
Despite seeing a late free kick saved after his 69th-minute introduction from the bench, the United youngster was unable to secure the points for his side, who were then beaten to the extra point on offer after suffering a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat. Kuol wasn't among the takers for Australia.

Friday 9th June

The Newcastle man was awarded Player of the Match in his side's first win of the tournament. Kuol set up two goals for Nishan Velupilla - the first a right-wing cutback for his team-mate to slot home, the second a strike from the edge of the box that was parried into the Melbourne Victory winger's path for a tap-in - and played for 66 minutes.
The Mediterranean Select side was put together just a few days before the competition, replacing Togo in the tournament after they withdrew.

Another victory for Kuol and his side, who secured their qualification from the group stage with two second half strikes against Mexico.
The Magpies youngster was introduced with quarter of an hour left and with his side a goal up thanks to Noah Botic, and Kuol again made his presence felt by providing the assist for Marlee Francois' late clincher.

Kuol appeared off the bench for the Olyroos in their last-four clash, but couldn't prevent Australia from being eliminated at the semi-final stage in France after Panama came from being to snatch a late victory in France.

Schär was an unused substitute as his Switzerland side held on to defeat Andorra in their EURO 2024 qualifier.

Isak wasn't part of the Sweden squad for their friendly victory over the All Whites in Stockholm - though he could feature as they return to EURO 2024 qualifying action in Austria on Tuesday.

Isak returned to the Sweden side for Tuesday night's qualifier, but it didn't go to plan as Janne Andersson's men slipped to defeat.
Christophe Baumgartner's brace was enough to win it for the hosts, though - Isak - who started the game - was replaced on 76 minutes, just five minutes before Austria opened the scoring.

Laugardalsvöllur
Goalkeeper Dúbravka lined up for his country as they secured a 2-1 EURO 2024 qualifying victory in Iceland.
Slovakia took the lead through Juraj Kucka before Dúbravka was beaten by Alfred Finnbogason's penalty, though Tomas Suslov's second half winner meant that spot-kick mattered little as the visitors sealed the points.

Dúbravka brought the curtain down on his campaign with a relatively comfortable night in Vaduz, as he kept a clean sheet to help Slovakia take all three points in their qualifier.
