Injury updates on Toon trio

Written by Dan King

Aleksandar Mitrovic has returned to training this week after recovering from a back injury.

The Serbian striker, 23, hasn't played since Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Leicester on 9th December, but is now fit again and could come into Rafa Benítez's plans for the weekend's trip to Manchester City or the Emirates FA Cup tie against Norwich City or Chelsea.

Meanwhile, defender Florian Lejeune is making good progress in his rehabilitation from a foot injury.

His last appearance came against Arsenal on 16th December.

Spanish full-back Jesús Gámez is also recovering well after undergoing an operation on an ankle tendon injury last month.

He has now been allowed to take off a protective boot and should be able to resume light gym work.
