In-form Almirón is Saturday's programme cover star

In-form forward Miguel Almirón sat down for an exclusive interview with UNITED, Newcastle United’s official matchday programme, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

The Magpies face Frank Lampard’s men at St. James’ Park (5:30pm kick-off), with the Paraguayan looking to continue his fine run which has seen him net four goals in his last seven games.

And Almirón – who opened his account for Newcastle in their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last month – has opened up about the impact his first strike in black and white had on him in an eight-page interview inside this weekend’s issue.

“I think goals do two things – they can relax you, calm you down, and they also give you a huge amount of satisfaction,” the 25-year-old told UNITED. “But I still feel in myself that I still have a lot to give.

“I still need to improve all the time and I don’t know whether more goals will come, but what will always be there is that effort I put in out there in games, and the desire to be able to win games.”

Meanwhile, former defender Wes Saunders – who made a flying visit to the club's Benton training ground last week – chats to us about making his debut against Chelsea as an 18-year-old.

Florian Lejeune dips his hand into the Toon Tombola for the first time, discussing Labradors, Lionel Messi and the prospect of robbing a bank.

Club historian Paul Joannou shares a little-known story about Magpies legend Hughie Gallacher, who also turned out for Chelsea.

And young midfielder Jack Young is profiled in High Hopes, while head coach Steve Bruce and captain Jamaal Lascelles – who made his return from injury in the FA Cup third round replay win over Rochdale on Tuesday night – pen their regular columns.
