Harker joins Blyth Spartans on loan

Newcastle United goalkeeper Nathan Harker has joined Blyth Spartans on loan until January 2020.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper will link up with the National League North outfit, who face Gloucester City in their opening league game of the 2019/20 season on Saturday afternoon.

Harker, who has established himself as United's number one at under-23 level, made his senior debut for Newcastle during a 1-1 friendly draw against Royal Antwerp in 2018.

The Northampton-born goalkeeper made 27 appearances for Newcastle's under-23 side last season, keeping eight clean sheets as the youngsters reached the Premier League Cup final and Premier League 2 division two play-off final.

He also featured on the Magpies' bench for their FA Cup third round clashes against Blackburn Rovers in January along with playing between the sticks for all of Newcastle's Checkatrade Trophy ties last term, with United's second-string reaching the last 16.

Harker could make his debut for Lee Clark's men when they host the Tigers at Croft Park this weekend.
