Happy Munda: Anthony's stunning strike shares spoils
Anthony Munda is keen to "keep on pushing further" after netting his first goal for Newcastle United Under-21s in a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League 2.
Newcastle's second-string led inside eight minutes at the Aggborough Stadium following Temple Ojinnaka's own goal, turning Trevan Sanusi's cross-cum shot into his own net following an impressive solo run from the 16-year-old winger before Tom Edozie's brace, netting in both halves, sent the visitors behind in Kidderminster.
However, the young Magpies levelled the scoring in the 90th minute following Munda's excellent finish, his first goal at under-21 level, after racing onto James Huntley's deft flick before cooly slotting the ball into the top right-hand corner, securing a point for United's youngsters.
Munda, a representative of England at under-18 level, told nufc.co.uk: "I think, as a team, the lads would have wished to win the game but we're happy not to lose and pick up a draw.
"All the lads started really well, taking the lead early on and although there were little moments that cost us, it was positive and we need to make sure we start like that in the next game and keep it going throughout the whole match.
"When I was through on goal, I was just trying to keep a cool head and do what I normally do and put the ball in the back of the net so I was really happy when I saw it go in.
"When it's in the 90th minute, scoring is a bit more of a relief as you've worked hard during the game trying to push for a good result and it's a good thing when that happens."
The 17-year-old midfielder, who joined United's youth set-up in 2015, made his under-21s debut during a Premier League 2 clash at Blackburn Rovers in January and has relished the progression through the Magpies' youth ranks in recent months.
The Cowgate-born midfielder, who plays primarily in the middle of the park, is now determined to build on his maiden goal for his boyhood club at second-string level and secure a regular place within the squad.
"Over the last few weeks I've been playing with the under-21s, I believe my confidence has grown," Munda added.
"I just need to keep on pushing further and doing what the coaches are asking of me whilst being myself and doing the right things on the pitch.
"I'm happy to score my first goal in the Premier League 2. It's a big thing but, for me, it's another moment and I want to try and push on and keep doing more to make sure I can keep my place in the team."
