Hanley and Ritchie's Wembley woe

Written by Dan King

Grant Hanley and Matt Ritchie were part of the Scotland side beaten by England at Wembley on Friday night.

Gareth Southgate's Three Lions were 3-0 winners against Gordon Strachan's Tartan Army in the World Cup qualifier - but the match was arguably closer than the scoreline suggested.

Ritchie was surprisingly left out of Strachan's starting XI but Hanley started at centre-back and had a great opportunity to score in the first half, sending a free header over the bar.

And while Scotland didn't take their chances, England were clinical as Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill found the target.

Ritchie was introduced in the 82nd minute, but it was too late for the Newcastle man to make an impact.

Meanwhile in Columbus, Ohio, the USA took on Mexico in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying section.

And it was the visitors who won thanks to a late goal. DeAndre Yedlin appeared as a 74th minute substitute for Jurgen Klinsmann's side.
