Gordon pushing for more after 100 appearance milestone

Written by Dan King

Anthony Gordon is chasing more milestones after receiving an award for making his 100th Premier League appearance this month.

The 22-year-old achieved the landmark in the Magpies' defeat at Liverpool and admitted: "It means a lot - it's a bit of recognition for the hard work I've put in over the last couple of years, and it's nice that the Premier League give awards for something like that."

Gordon made the first 65 of his century of appearances for previous club Everton, with his top flight debut coming in January 2020.

"My first Premier League appearance was West Ham away," he recalled. "I came on at half time - Carlo Ancelotti brought me on.

"I was full of nerves coming on for a top coach like that, but to have his trust was a great day and I'll always remember it."

The England under-21 international joined Newcastle from Goodison Park exactly a year ago and has been outstanding for the Magpies this season, scoring seven times.

On the anniversary of his arrival, Gordon told nufc.co.uk: "I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love it here. My journey so far has just been perfect, really - I wouldn't change it for the world.

"It sort of started off slow and I had to work my way to where I've got to now - and I don't plan on stopping. I want to just keep getting better and better.

"I've got that type of personality. Milestones never stop for me. I want to keep getting better, I want to keep achieving new things, I want to improve every chance I get.

"So 100 is gone - now I've got to get to 200."

"I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love it here. My journey so far has just been perfect, really - I wouldn't change it for the world."
