Friday night football for under-18s

Written by Dan King

Newcastle's under-18s are preparing to take on their Manchester United counterparts under the Friday night lights.

Dave Watson's young Magpies travel to Altrincham's J. Davidson Stadium for a 7pm kick-off - and will be hoping for a better result than November's 4-0 home defeat to the Red Devils.

United will be missing some key men who played for the under-23s in Thursday night's Techflow Group Northumberland FA Senior Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to North Shields.

And defender Lewis Gibson is on international duty with England under-17s.

But the likes of Callum Smith, Adam Wilson and Matthew Longstaff will all be looking to impress, with the match being shown live on MUTV.

And they will be playing for places with the FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Tottenham on the horizon.
