Fans advised to allow time for travel on Saturday due to Metro disruption

Newcastle United fans are being advised to allow plenty of time for travel to Saturday's Premier League fixture against West Ham at St. James' Park, due to pre-planned Metro line closures between South Gosforth and Heworth.

A four-day closure will be in place from Friday 29th March to Monday 1st April, with buses replacing Metro trains in both directions between Heworth and South Gosforth throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Metro services from South Gosforth to St James will continue to run via Whitley Bay during this period. However, Monument Metro station will be fully closed: trains will run non-stop between Manors and St James.

Supporters attending the 12.30pm kick-off at St. James' Park on Saturday are encouraged to plan ahead and leave additional time for their journey, as road traffic is also expected to be impacted by Metro line closures.

Key travel information is noted below:

Alternative Metro routes

No trains will stop at Monument platforms 3 or 4 during the line closure, with services set to pass directly through the station. Any individual who would usually travel to/from Monument should use either Manors or St James stations.

South Shields: Passengers from South Shields can travel via ferry to North Shields before taking the Metro to St James, if they do not wish to use a bus replacement service.

North Tyneside: Those advancing from North Tyneside Metro have the option to travel direct to St James via Whitley Bay.

Bus replacement

The replacement bus service number 900 will call at, or close to, all stations between Heworth and South Gosforth. Metro tickets and passes will be valid on the replacement buses. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the driver.

Passengers should note that journey times on the replacement buses will be longer than on Metro, and may be affected by road congestion.

Soccer Bus X50

The Soccer Bus X50 is available from MetroCentre coach park, with free parking and travel provided directly to/from Barrack Road.

The first bus leaves the MetroCentre (coach park) two hours before each match. Buses then run at frequent intervals until the last departure 15 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.

Buses return from St. James' Park at frequent intervals after each match: the last bus leaves one hour after the final whistle.

Park & Ride

Park & Ride sites at Four Lane Ends and Northumberland Park are suitable for passengers using Metro travel to St James via Whitley Bay.

The site at Regent Centre also offers frequent Arriva bus services direct to Haymarket.

Park & Ride spaces are available for £1.20 and live parking information can be viewed on the Pop app.
