Dummett's disappointment at Rovers reverse

Charlie Mulgrew’s second half free kick won it for Rovers at Ewood Park, though the scoreline belies what was a dominant Magpies display in Lancashire.

But Rafa Benitez’s side failed to make their pressure pay, and afterwards Dummett told nufc.co.uk that while it was a very frustrating afternoon for his team, he believes that United will be back to winning ways sooner rather than later if they continue to create as many chances as they did on Monday.

“The performance was really good - we've had a lot of chances and dominated the game and we haven’t got the result we deserved, but that’s football,” he said. “You've got to take your chances when you get them and finish teams off. Credit to them, in the end they scored the free kick, but we've just got to keep on going for the rest of the season, keep putting in performances like that and we’ll win more games than we’ll lose.

“It’s very frustrating. The manager just said we've got to be positive, as we dominated the game. It’s disappointing, and coming here away is a tough place to come, but we've just got to take our chances when we get them and finish teams off. We've struggled a few times I think in a few of the games where we've had the same situation, and we just need to finish things off when we get the chances.

“Blackburn seemed to throw bodies in front of every chance we had, and they blocked a lot of them. We just have to keep on going, be positive and be confident that we can keep on winning games. We've got a good squad of players. We’re disappointed, but we have to be positive too.

“This season we've scored more goals than any other team, so we do score a lot of goals. We've just got keep on creating those chances and we’ll win games.”

Dummett played the full 90 minutes against Rovers, racking up his century of games in black and white in the process.

And, while the eventual defeat detracted somewhat from the 25-year-old’s milestone, Dummett expressed his pride at having made it into the 100 club – and said he hopes there’ll be many more to follow.

“I found out about it yesterday so it’s nice for me, having grown up as a Newcastle fan, to have played 100 games for my home town club. It’s a big achievement, so hopefully there’ll be many more to come," he said.

“Because we've been beaten, it takes the shine off the occasion but for me, being a fan, playing for your home town club is what you want to do. I'm happy with that, and now I've got to keep on going and get 100 more.

“It’s been three and a half or four years since my debut, so it’s a positive for me and I've just got to keep on doing what I can do to stay in the team now and get many more appearances in the future.”
