Date confirmed for FA Youth Cup quarter-final

Written by Dan King

Newcastle United's FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie with Aston Villa will be played at St. James' Park on Tuesday, 27th April.

Kick-off will be at 7pm (BST) and while the current Covid-19 guidelines mean supporters won't be able to attend, the match will be broadcast live on the official Newcastle United YouTube channel

United - who have won the FA Youth Cup twice, in 1962 and 1985 - will be bidding to reach the semi-final stage for the first time since 2009/10, when a side featuring future first-teamers Paul Dummett, James Tavernier, Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic, Jak Alnwick and Phil Airey were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Villa.

A crowd of 11,664 was at St. James' Park when United lost after extra time to a Chelsea side including Dominic Solanke, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori at the last eight stage in 2014/15. Newcastle last reached the quarter-finals in 2016/17, when they were beaten 5-3 by Tottenham Hotspur.

Neil Winskill's youngsters have so far beaten Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Watford while the Villans have seen off Reading, Brighton & Hove Albion and most recently Burton Albion, who they thrashed 9-0 last week.

United's Under-18 Premier League fixture against Everton - due to take place on Saturday - has been rearranged for Saturday, 15th May with a 1pm (BST) kick-off at the Little Benton Academy.
