Written by Dan King

Newcastle got their SuperCupNI campaign off to a losing start in Ballymena on Monday evening.

The Magpies slipped to a 3-1 defeat against local side County Antrim in the competition formerly known as the Milk Cup.

Patrick Burns gave Co Antrim a fifth minute lead from a free kick, and although Newcastle threatened a quick response, Jack Robson was twice denied by goalkeeper Declan Dunne.

And in first-half stoppage time, the Northern Irish outfit doubled their advantage through Aaron Donnelly.

Caoimhin McConnell then made it 3-0 before Robson pulled one back late on with a well-taken finish from outside the box.

Newcastle United Under-17s: Otto Huuhtanen, Lewis Cass, Oliver Walters, Matthew Longstaff, Oisin McEntee, Jack Robson, Thomas Cole, Kieren Aplin, Adam Wilson, Sam Joyce (Deese Kasinga Madia 35), Max Allen (Jack Young 50)

Subs not used: Josh Skivington, Ryan Barrett, Will Brown, Jude Swails, Kyle Soper
