Coote in control at Villa Park on Saturday

Written by Dan King

David Coote will referee Newcastle United's visit to Aston Villa on Saturday (kick-off 3pm BST).

Coote, who started refereeing as a 16-year-old and is now on the FIFA International Referees List, only took charge of two games involving the Magpies last season: the 3-1 home victory over Burnley last October and a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in January.

In total last year, he officiated 29 matches across the top flight, Championship, FA Cup and UEFA Nations League, showing 98 yellow cards and three red cards.

The Nottinghamshire official was the man in the middle for Burnley v Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, brandishing three yellow cards at Turf Moor.

His assistants on Saturday will be Peter Kirkup and Nick Hopton while Matthew Donohue is the fourth official.

Jarred Gillett is the Video Assistant Referee and he will be assisted by Ian Hussin at Stockley Park.
