Beardsley: "A new experience"

Written by Dan King

Peter Beardsley says playing in front of a live NUFC TV audience will be a "new experience" for his Newcastle United youngsters.

Monday night's Premier League 2 clash with Norwich City will be broadcast live to supporters all over the world. Kick-off is at 7pm (BST) and fans can watch the game for free by logging in or registering via the club's official website.

While the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Rolando Aarons and Freddie Woodman - who will all start for United's second-string at St. James' Park - are used to playing in televised matches, it will be a novelty for several members of Beardsley's squad.

"It's great for these kids because it gives them a new experience and that’s what we need," the coach told nufc.co.uk.

"It's our first home game of the season and then the second one in two weeks time, against Wolves, is at St. James' too.

"I keep saying to them it's a thing you can't buy, to be able to play at St. James.'

"Norwich play good football so it should be a proper football game and I'm looking forward to it."

United won their opening two PL2 matches of the campaign, scoring eight goals in the process, before suffering a 1-0 loss at Middlesbrough.

But they were 2-1 victors at Crewe in the Checkatrade Trophy in their last match, and Beardsley said: "It was disappointing to lose to Middlesbrough but we responded in the right way.

"We had a good win last time out, and when you look at what we have in terms of senior players to go with the young ones, there's a good mix."

Admission at St. James' Park is free for season ticket holders and members, otherwise it's £3 for adults and £1 concessions.

Those watching on NUFC TV are advised to ensure they are logged into their accounts in good time ahead of kick-off. Coverage will start at 6.30pm BST.

"Norwich play good football so it should be a proper football game and I'm looking forward to it."
