Barrett targeting victory in Canaries clash

The young Magpies aim to end a winless run of four matches in Division Two, as well as moving off the foot of the table, with a victory ahead of their 506-mile round-trip to the Lotus Training Centre in Norfolk.

Barrett, who primarily plays as a right-back, is determined United's second-string can end their 2020/21 campaign in strong fashion whilst exacting revenge on their Canaries counterparts following a 2-0 home defeat in November.

The 19-year-old defender, who joined the Magpies' Academy at the age of 12, told nufc.co.uk: "We know it will be a tough game against Norwich but we're confident in ourselves and believe we can go there and get a good result. We need to do what we're good at and hopefully we can come away with three points.

"We have a point to prove against them after losing the last game. The squad are all fresh heading into the game, with a long travel down there, and hopefully we can get a win.

"We haven't been on a great run of form lately so going into the final stages of the season, it is important to finish the season on a high. 

"This season, we haven't been too lucky with injuries but many are back now so there's added competition in the squad which keeps everyone focused in trying their hardest to keep their place in the team and those pushing for a spot." 

Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage's side currently sit in 13th place and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against league leaders Leeds United on Monday.

Barrett, who played the full 90 minutes against the Whites, felt his side were unfortunate to come away without a positive result but took confidence after a spirited second-half display against the league ladders.

The Wrexham-born full-back, who has represented Wales at under-17 level, added: "We knew Leeds was going to be a tough game with them being top of the league. They pressed us man for man for the full game and it was difficult to play against.

"We struggled a bit in the first-half but we were definitely better in the second and could have came away with something from the game which was disappointing.

"Looking back on it, there were encouraging bits but we just need to tidy up on little things, taking our chances more and making sure we stop conceding sloppy goals. We have a real chance of getting some results from the upcoming games if we can do that.

"We've always got the belief and desire in the squad when we play. Even though we've been on the wrong end of results lately, we're always wanting to try to do the right things and we have been unfortunate how results haven't come our way."
