Baggies up next for Under-23s

Written by Rory Mitchinson

West Bromwich Albion are next in line for Newcastle United Under-23s as Peter Beardsley’s side hit the road once more.

The Magpies’ Premier League 2 Division Two campaign started in thrilling fashion at Stoke City a week ago. They trailed with 15 minutes to play after blowing a two-goal lead, but Mo Sangare and Owen Gallacher struck late on to secure a 4-3 victory.

Opponents Albion, meanwhile, got off to a losing start against Aston Villa on Monday. The Baggies finished in the lower reaches of the division last season, and took just one point from six against Newcastle.

Jamie Sterry could feature for United as he steps up his recovery from a groin operation. The 21-year-old made a handful of appearances for Rafa Benítez’s first team last term, and returned to training earlier this week.

Tonight’s clash will take place at the Hawthorns, with kick-off at 7pm.
