Armstrong joins Bolton on loan

Written by Tom Easterby

Young Newcastle United forward Adam Armstrong has joined Sky Bet Championship side Bolton Wanderers on a half-season loan deal.

Twenty-year-old Armstrong has linked up with Phil Parkinson’s side – who won promotion from League One last season – and penned a loan deal which will keep him at the Macron Stadium until Thursday, 4th January 2018.

It will be the third time the Under-20 World Cup winner has gone out on loan, having previously spent time at Coventry City and Barnsley.

Armstrong spent the 2015/16 campaign on loan at then-League One side Coventry, where he bagged 20 goals in 40 league outings for the Sky Blues, picking up the club’s Young Player of the Year, Top Goalscorer and Goal of the Season awards, while also being named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.

He spent last season out on loan at Championship outfit Barnsley, where he scored six goals in 36 games in the second tier, collecting another Goal of the Season gong for his stunning strike against Preston North End.

Armstrong, who signed a new deal with United last summer which will keep him at St. James’ Park until 2020, has made 21 appearances for the Magpies so far.

He will now join up with a Bolton squad that includes former Newcastle winger Sammy Ameobi, who joined the Trotters on a permanent deal last week.
