Almirón receives call-up to Paraguay squad

Newcastle United forward Miguel Almirón has been included in Paraguay's 18-man squad for La Albirroja's international friendlies against Japan and Jordan.

The 25-year-old, will link up with his country for a double-bill of friendly clashes next month, with Paraguay taking on Japan in Kashima on Thursday, 5th September before travelling to Amman to face Jordan on Tuesday, 10th September.

Almirón could face-to-face against Japanese striker and Magpies team-mate Yoshinori Muto at the Kashima Soccer Stadium.

Paraguay are set to compete in the 47th edition of the Copa América next summer, with the South American competition being staged in Argentina and Colombia, the first time the tournament will be held in two countries since 1983.

Almirón, a two-time Paraguay Footballer of the Year, made his international debut in 2015 and represented his country at the Copa América this summer, with Eduardo Berizzo's men reaching the quarter-finals before losing to hosts Brazil on penaltie
