A Marriner on Tyne for Seagulls clash

Written by Dan King

Andre Marriner will be the referee when Newcastle United entertain Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday (kick-off 3pm BST).

It will be the West Midlands-based whistler's second Magpies match of the season, after he took charge of last month's 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace. He booked two players on that occasion - United's DeAndre Yedlin and Palace's James Tomkins.

In total this term, Marriner - who refereed the 2013 FA Cup final - has refereed eight matches and shown 24 yellow cards. He has also flashed one red card.

Last season, he oversaw five Newcastle games, including the opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. In 35 outings last term, he showed 97 yellow cards and brandished five red cards.

On Saturday Marriner will be assisted by Simon Long and Richard West. Tony Harrington will be the fourth official.
