West Ham win in pictures as Magpies edge five-goal thriller

It was a dramatic and eventful match that had just about everything - except for the supporters.

And Newcastle United came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Champions League-chasing West Ham at St. James' Park on Saturday.

The game had already been building up nicely before it burst into life in the 36th minute as the Magpies went in front through an Issa Diop own goal after superb work from Allan Saint-Maximin - and the visitors' Craig Dawson was shown a second yellow card for a foul in the build-up.

Joelinton quickly made it 2-0, but the Hammers put the pressure on in the second half despite their numerical disadvantage and after pulling one back through Diop in the 73rd minute, referee Kevin Friend awarded them a late penalty with the help of VAR and Jesse Lingard converted.

However, after Jacob Murphy had seen a shot cleared off the line, substitute Joe Willock headed home from Matt Ritchie's wonderful cross with eight minutes - plus the same amount in stoppage time - to play, and Steve Bruce's side made it back-to-back wins. Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
