Villa victory in pictures
Newcastle picked up another three points on Monday night, with Aston Villa the latest team to be beaten by Rafa Benitez's Magpies.
It looked set to be a frustrating first half in front of the Sky Sports cameras until, in the 42nd minute, Yoan Gouffran swept home after a goalmouth scramble at the Leazes End.
And early in the second period, Henri Lansbury put through his own net to make it a relatively comfortable finale - although Karl Darlow made a vital save to deny Birkir Bjarnason just after the hour mark.
