United's first game back in the Premier League ended in defeat - but Rafa Benítez's side arguably matched last season's runners-up for the first hour.
The game was goalless until Jonjo Shelvey was shown a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner, and soon afterwards Dele Alli put Tottenham in front.
