Toon in training: United train on Christmas Eve ahead of City clash

As snow fell on North Tyneside on Christmas Eve, Newcastle United's players trained ahead of their Boxing Day trip to Manchester City.

Steve Bruce knows his side must react after the disappointment of Tuesday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Brentford, and he will have been pleased to see Federico Fernández train after he came off at half time against Fulham, having only recently recovered from Covid-19.

Skipper Jamaal Lascelles was also back at the Magpies' Benton base after suffering from the virus, and while he didn't join the main group on Thursday, the sight of him running with physio Sean Beech will be another boost for Bruce ahead of a busy schedule.

Club photographer Serena Taylor braved the cold to bring nufc.co.uk this gallery.
