Toon in training: United raring to go for Rotherham

Fabian Schär and Emil Krafth were both back in training for Newcastle United on Monday, while goalkeepers Mark Gillespie and Freddie Woodman also took part in the Magpies' preparations for Tuesday night's friendly at Rotherham United.

The two goalkeepers were required to self-isolate after being identified as close contacts of Karl Darlow, who tested positive for Covid-19 at the Magpies' training camp in York earlier in the month. Darlow is still recovering at home, but Gillespie and Woodman did not contract the virus and having followed protocol could now be involved at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Schär and Krafth, meanwhile, were given an extended break after representing their respective countries at Euro 2020, with Schär's Switzerland reaching the quarter-finals and Krafth's Sweden the round of 16.

Joelinton and Yoshinori Muto took part in Monday's training session, too, after missing Friday evening's win at Doncaster, while youngsters Jack Young and Matt Bondswell, who made their debuts at the Keepmoat Stadium, will hope for another opportunity against the League One Millers.

Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie also feature in club photographer Serena Taylor's latest gallery for nufc.co.uk.
