Toon in training: United prepare for final day

Eddie Howe's Magpies travel to Burnley for their final match of the 2021/22 season with a top ten finish still within reach after Monday night's brilliant win over Arsenal.

When the two sides last met, at St. James' Park in December, Newcastle had yet to win a game - but a 1-0 victory over the Clarets helped to kickstart United's campaign.

Callum Wilson got the all-important goal that day and he made his first start of 2022 against the Gunners last time out. Despite nearly losing a tooth, he has trained ahead of Sunday's match, as has Kieran Trippier, whose last start before suffering a foot injury came against Aston Villa in February.

Also involved in Thursday's session was Elliot Anderson, who has returned from a hugely successful loan spell with Bristol Rovers. The teenager can't play at Burnley, but Howe has wasted no time in seeing how much he's benefited from helping Joey Barton's side to win promotion from League Two.

Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this final training gallery of the season from the Magpies' Benton base, which is due to be renovated over the summer.
