Toon in training: Pirelli preparation

Burton Albion are Newcastle United's next pre-season opponents as the Magpies head to the Pirelli Stadium on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm BST).

Joelinton has missed the last two matches against Doncaster and Rotherham after limping out of United's first friendly of the summer, at York City just under a fortnight ago, but the Brazilian was back in full training on Thursday.

However, Allan Saint-Maximin is still poorly while Karl Darlow continues to recover at home having tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.

Youngsters Jack Young, Tom Allan and Joe White continue to train with Steve Bruce's squad, while the Magpies' head coach admitted this week that Kell Watts has given him "food for thought" ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Jamal Lewis was captured trying his hand at a spot of photography after the main session had finished, but it was club snapper Serena Taylor who brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from Newcastle's Benton base.
