Toon in training: Magpies set for Saints on Saturday
Although the disappointment of their Carabao Cup exit to Burnley was still raw, there was no time for Newcastle United's players and staff to dwell as they prepared for Saturday's Premier League visit of Southampton on Thursday morning.
Steve Bruce had made nine changes for the cup tie, with the likes of Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Federico Fernández rested completely, and all three trained ahead of the Saints clash.
Isaac Hayden was also back in training, with the knee injury he suffered at Aston Villa last weekend thankfully not as serious as first feared, and Paul Dummett is also pushing for a place in the squad after getting a good week of work under his belt.
