Toon in training: Magpies prepare for start of Carabao Cup campaign

After picking up their first Premier League win of the season at Tottenham on Sunday, Newcastle United turn their attention towards the Carabao Cup when they host Leicester City on Wednesday night.

It's the only all-Premier League tie of the round and could see Ayoze Pérez make his first return to St. James' Park, but Steve Bruce - who won this competition as a player - has made no secret of his determination to succeed in the cups this term and is set to name a strong team against the Foxes.

Allan Saint-Maximin won't feature after suffering a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while Jamaal Lascelles also limped off at the weekend and Joelinton, Fabian Schär, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almirón are doubts.

But Bruce - who held his pre-match media briefing ahead of Tuesday morning's session - could hand a full debut to Jetro Willems while internationals like Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-yueng, Yoshinori Muto and Federico Fernández may come into the side. Youngster Matty Longstaff will also be hoping to be involved against the Foxes as he awaits a competitive bow for his boyhood club.
