Toon in training: Getting set for City

Newcastle United entertain the reigning Premier League champions this weekend, with Manchester City arriving at St. James’ Park on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off).

The Magpies are looking for a second successive home win over Pep Guardiola’s men, who were beaten 2-1 on Tyneside last season, with Matt Ritchie’s penalty sealing the points for the hosts.

United lost 2-0 at Aston Villa on Monday night but were back out on the training pitch ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime clash, with the returning defenders Fabian Schär – who was on the bench at Villa Park – and Florian Lejeune among those being put through their paces.

Steve Bruce’s charges began Thursday’s training session in the gym at their Benton training base, before getting back out onto the pitch to continue their preparations, as they look to make it six home league games unbeaten.

And Serena Taylor was there to capture these images for nufc.co.uk
