Toon in training: Fired up to face the Foxes

A busy festive period continues with the visit of Leicester City on New Year's Day, and Newcastle United's players were in training on Monday ahead of the Foxes' trip to St. James' Park.

The game will come too soon for the likes of Paul Dummett, Allan Saint-Maximin, Ciaran Clark and skipper Jamaal Lascelles, as well as the influential Matt Ritchie, who hasn't played since he was hurt by a Hamza Choudhury tackle when United hosted Leicester in the Carabao Cup back in August.

Matty Longstaff made his Newcastle debut in that game and will hope for another start after netting against Manchester United on Boxing Day, while fellow youngster Kell Watts trained with the first team on Monday. The 20-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, spent the first part of the season on loan with Stevenage before picking up an injury in November - shortly after signing a new three-year contract with the Magpies.

Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from United's Benton base.
