Toon in training: Fired up for Forest trip

With Sunday's win over Wolves fresh in the memory, Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players were all smiles on Wednesday as they continued their preparations for Friday night's clash with Nottingham Forest (8pm kick-off).

The Magpies head to the City Ground for a Friday night showdown under the lights in what will be their final Premier League fixture before March's international break.

They could come up against a familiar face in former United star Jonjo Shelvey, who joined newly-promoted Forest in January, with Steve Cooper's men in need of points to haul themselves further away from the top flight drop zone.

But Howe's side have considerable motivation themselves as they seek a win which would see them close the gap to fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, as their quest for a place in Europe continues following last weekend's 2-1 win at St. James' Park.

Both of Newcastle's goalscorers that day, Alexander Isak and Miguel Almirón, seemed in buoyant mood at the club's Benton base on Wednesday morning as head coach Howe oversaw a typically testing midweek session ahead of the trip to Nottingham.

Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
