Toon in training: Canaries clash coming closer

Miguel Almirón was back in training this week as Newcastle United prepared for Saturday's final friendly of the summer, against Norwich City at St. James' Park.

The 27-year-old spent much of the close season representing Paraguay at the Copa América, meaning he has only just returned to Tyneside following some individual training in Spain, where he worked with fitness coach Cristian Fernández at the Rafa Nadal Academy to ensure he was ready to hit the ground running on his return.

Karl Darlow has also made a welcome appearance on the training pitches this week, after recovering from Covid-19. The goalkeeper has yet to feature this pre-season after testing positive for the virus, but worked with keeper coach Simon Smith on Thursday.

Jonjo Shelvey continues to be ahead of schedule in his return from a calf injury, having played 30 minutes of Tuesday's behind-closed-doors game at Burnley, while Javier Manquillo also features in Serena Taylor's latest training gallery for nufc.co.uk
