Seven up: Morecambe cup win in pictures

Wednesday night's 7-0 Carabao Cup win at Morecambe was Newcastle United's biggest ever away win, and their most emphatic at any venue in the League Cup, with the Magpies comfortably progressing to the fourth round at the Mazuma Stadium.

In truth, United could - and should - have scored even more but Steve Bruce was nonetheless delighted with what was Newcastle's highest margin of victory since the 8-0 thumping of Sheffield Wednesday under Sir Bobby Robson in September 1999.

Joelinton opened the scoring after five minutes before Miguel Almirón and the excellent Jacob Murphy also got on the scoresheet before the half-hour mark. Joelinton then added a second, and Morecambe's task became even harder when Toumani Diagouraga was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Sean Longstaff

Isaac Hayden and skipper Jamaal Lascelles added more goals and in stoppage time, Matt Ritchie's flick went in off the unfortunate Sam Lavelle to round off a fantastic night for the Magpies, who will now face Newport County next week with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery on a wet evening which also rained goals in Lancashire.
