New boy Hendrick trains as Magpies prepare for Crewe clash

Jeff Hendrick wasted no time in getting down to business as a Newcastle United player as he trained just over an hour after completing his move to the Magpies.

The Republic of Ireland international joined up with his new team-mates on Monday, arriving at the team's pre-season camp near York to complete the formalities of his four-year deal.

And that meant he was able to take part in United's second training session of the day as the team prepared for Tuesday's first friendly of the summer against Crewe Alexandra at Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate's wonderful facilities.

Whether Hendrick, whose last appearance for previous club Burnley came back in March, features against the Railwaymen remains to be seen, but his international colleague Ciaran Clark - fit again after an ankle injury - could play a part while Paul Dummett, Florian Lejeune and skipper Jamaal Lascelles are also back in contention after missing the final games of last season.

Matty Longstaff, who signed a new contract with the Magpies on Friday, is now in full training while youngster Daniel Barlaser is hoping for an opportunity against the League One side. Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
