Manchester United draw in pictures

A draw with Manchester United was the least that Newcastle United deserved at the end of an enthralling, pulsating encounter at St. James' Park on Monday night.

Allan Saint-Maximin's early goal got Eddie Howe's side off to a dream start and the Frenchman had a great opportunity to double his tally, and the Magpies' advantage, in the second half, but saw his close-range effort saved.

Substitute Edinson Cavani equalised in the 71st minute but Newcastle continued to press for a winner, with Jacob Murphy hitting a post and Miguel Almirón denied by a stunning David de Gea stop.

But while only one point was, in many ways, a little disappointing given the home side's performance, the synergy between the players and the supporters offered genuine hope that the Magpies can get out of trouble in the second half of the campaign. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
