Newcastle's youngsters marched into the last 16 of the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night - but needed a penalty shoot-out to edge out Macclesfield at St. James' Park.
In Sol Campbell's first match in charge of the Silkmen, Elias Sørensen gave the Magpies a first-half lead with his fourth goal of the competition and his 18th of the season overall.
But with five minutes left, Scott Wilson levelled for the visitors to take the tie straight to penalties. Nathan Harker's wonderful save from Ben Stephens proved decisive, though, with United scoring all five of their kicks to go through.
