In pictures: United's deadline day double

Defenders Matt Targett and Dan Burn joined Newcastle United on the final day of the January transfer window to complete an impressive month of trading for the Magpies.

Targett, 26, signed from Aston Villa on a loan deal until the end of the season while Ashington-born 29-year-old Burn agreed a two-and-a-half year deal to move from Brighton & Hove Albion.

They joined England international Kieran Trippier, New Zealand forward Chris Wood and Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães in making the move to St. James' Park in the window as Eddie Howe looks to assemble a squad capable of climbing out of the Premier League's bottom three.

Targett was the first through the door on Monday, completing his medical at the club's training ground and meeting co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi before posing for photographs and giving his first interview to NUFC TV.

And he was followed later in the day by 6ft 7ins Burn, who also arrived at United's Benton base before heading to St. James' Park - where he once had a season ticket - to complete his move and speak about it to NUFC TV.

Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from a busy deadline day.
