In pictures: Brentford beaten at St. James' Park

Newcastle United halted a three-match losing sequence to end Brentford's unbeaten start to the campaign on Saturday.

Callum Wilson got what proved to be the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, having already seen a strike contentiously chalked off.

Before kick-off at St. James' Park, there was an impeccably-observed minute's silence for the victims of the recent tragic disasters in Morocco and Libya. After an even first half, United stepped up in the second period and were able to pick up three valuable points courtesy of Wilson's emphatic spot-kick.

Club photographer Serena Taylor, assisted by Michelle Mercer, brought nufc.co.uk this gallery as the Magpies prepared for Tuesday night's return to the Champions League with a much-needed victory and a well-earned clean sheet.
