Hull City 1 Newcastle 1 (Hull win 3-1 on pens)

Newcastle United bowed out of the EFL Cup at the quarter-finals - despite dominating possession against Premier League side Hull.

Rafa Benitez's men had the better of the first half and had more chances in the second period, and a clash between Dieumerci Mbokani and Jamaal Lascelles saw the Hull striker red-carded.

In extra time, Mohamed Diame gave Newcastle the lead against his old club, but Robert Snodgrass equalised within seconds and the game went to penalties.

The Tigers triumphed on spot-kicks and now United must concentrate on the league, with their League Cup hopes over for another season in agonising fashion.
