Nottingham Forest 2 Newcastle United 1

On a controversial night at the City Ground, Newcastle were beaten by Nottingham Forest on Friday.

United were reduced to ten men when Jonjo Shelvey apparently clashed with Henri Lensbury - but worse was to follow as referee Steve Martin awarded Forest a penalty for the incident.

Karl Darlow saved the resulting spot-kick, and against all the odds Matt Ritchie gave the Magpies the lead just before half time. However, there was still time before the break for Martin to award another penalty - and show another red card, this time to the unfortunate Paul Dummett.

Again, Darlow saved but despite a brave effort, Newcastle's nine men conceded twice in the second period with Matty Cash grabbing a late winner for the home side.
