Frenchmen continue fine form for high flying Magpies (2013/2014)

Newcastle United were left singing in the rain after recording a 3-0 win against Tony Pulis' Crystal Palace in foul weather conditions at Selhurst Park.

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye sent the Magpies into the lead as his close-range strike deflected past Julian Speroni before the visitors doubled their advantage in South London when Palace defender Danny Gabbidon turned Mathieu Debuchy's cross into his own net.

Hatem Ben Arfa made an instant impact from the bench as the substitute netted from the penalty spot in the closing stages after Shola Ameobi was pushed over inside the box.

The win was United's sixth in eight games as Alan Pardew's side went on to finish in tenth place.

 

Dummett's extra-time winner for ten-man United (2014/2015)

Paul Dummett was the hero for Newcastle as the defender's 112th minute diving header sent United into the League Cup fourth round following a dramatic 3-2 win against the Eagles.

Emmanuel Rivière's brace, his first goals for the club since his summer transfer from Monaco, cancelled out Dwight Gayle's early penalty for the hosts before Palace debutant, Sullay Kaikai, sent the game into extra-time with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Newcastle were then reduced to ten men as Mehdi Abeid was sent off for a second bookable offence but, despite the disadvantage, Dummett's header sent the travelling United supporters into uproar to set up an away trip to Manchester City. 

Despite beating the League Cup holders in round four, Newcastle's run came to an end in the following stage after suffering a quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

 

Late drama at Selhurst (2020/21)

Late strikes from Callum Wilson and Joelinton sealed a 2-0 victory for the Magpies in last season's fixture at Selhurst Park.

With the Premier League contest heading towards a stalemate, despite both sides missing key opportunities in front of goal, United broke the deadlock in the final minutes as Wilson raced onto Joelinton's pass before sliding the ball underneath Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

The forward duo combined once again 99 seconds later as Wilson returned the favour with an assist before the Brazilian forward's deflected effort confirmed maximum points in the capital.

 

Kluivert and Bellamy seal late triumph (2004/05)

Goals from Patrick Kluivert and Craig Bellamy ended a run of three successive league defeats as Graeme Souness' side prevailed in a 2-0 victory.

Despite the absence of captain Alan Shearer, there would be no signs of concern in front of goal as Kluivert, a free transfer from Barcelona, sent United ahead with a neat back-heel from Bellamy's teasing cross.

Bellamy then turned from provider into goalscorer as the Welsh forward sealed three points for the Magpies with a fierce finish in the dying stages following excellent work from United winger Laurent Robert.

United finished 14th in the Premier League along with reaching the FA Cup semi-final and UEFA Cup quarter-final, losing to Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon respectively.

 

Ketsbaia's fine solo effort (1997/98)

Temuri Ketsbaia's first Premier League strike and a rare goal from Jon Dahl Tomasson gave United a second away win of the season following a 2-1 win in November.

With the league clash approaching half-time, Ketsbaia sent the Magpies into the lead with a moment of magic, cutting in from the right wing before drilling the ball beyond Palace goalkeeper Kevin Miller.

Tomasson, who had grabbed the winner in Newcastle's League Cup win against Derby County, found the target against the Eagles and, despite Neil Shipperley halving the deficit for Palace, it was Newcastle who made sure of maximum points.
