Carroll's hat-trick as Villa hit for six (2010/11)
Newcastle thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 in the Magpies' opening home game of the 2010/11 Premier League campaign as Andy Carroll's hat-trick and Kevin Nolan's brace helped secure a thrilling win at St. James' Park.
Chris Hughton's side had conceded a penalty before their opening goal as Norway international John Carew blazed his penalty over the crossbar with the contest on level terms.
Joey Barton broke the deadlock in wonderful fashion with a dipping strike from 20 yards before Nolan's headed rebound and Carroll's drilled close-range effort gave the hosts a comfortable advantage before half-time.
The Gateshead-born forward grabbed his second goal in front of the Gallowgate End with a clinical first-time finish after the restart and, after Nolan hooked the ball home to add further gloss to the scoreline, Carroll grabbed his first career hat-trick with a composed finish in stoppage-time to complete a fine afternoon.
Cissé's debut delight (2011/12)
Papiss Cissé marked his first appearance for Newcastle United with a stunning winner in front of the Gallowgate End as the Magpies sealed a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa in February 2012.
The Senegalese striker completed a move from Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg in the January transfer window but it was a Senegal team-mate who opened the scoring as Demba Ba broke the deadlock after thumping the ball home from close-range to register his 16th league goal of the campaign.
In the dying minutes of the first-half, United were delivered a difficult blow as Robbie Keane breached the Newcastle defence to equalise for the Villans following an assist from ex-Magpies winger Charles N'Zogbia.
Cissé, who made an early introduction from the substitutes' bench after Leon Best's injury inside the opening 15 minutes, opened his goalscoring account in style after controlling Jonás Gutiérrez's swinging pass with his chest before arrowing a ferocious effort beyond former United goalkeeper Shay Given.
United edge seven-goal thriller (1996/97)
Newcastle United claimed a fifth successive Premier League victory after an entertaining 4-3 triumph against ten-man Aston Villa in October 1996.
Dwight Yorke, who would bag a hat-trick at St. James' Park, opened the scoring with a looping header inside four minutes but the Villans' lead lasted barely 60 seconds as Alan Shearer's pass across the face of goal was tucked home by Les Ferdinand.
The physical striker then grabbed his sixth league goal in as many games after heading home from Keith Gillespie's inviting cross before Shearer's rebounded effort doubled the hosts' lead.
Villa were then reduced to ten men as Mark Draper received his marching orders in the closing stages of the first-half but did manage to halve the deficit towards the hour-mark through Yorke's rifled finish.
The visitors' hopes of a comeback looked to have been dashed as another delightful cross from Gillespie was met by the head of Steve Howey and, despite Yorke bagging his third of the evening, it proved a consolation as Kevin Keegan's side recorded back-to-back home victories.
Shearer's volley and Bellamy's brace (2001/02)
Alan Shearer marked his 400th league appearance with a sublime volley and Craig Bellamy scored twice as Newcastle claimed an impressive 3-0 win against leaders Aston Villa in November 2001.
Bellamy gave Bobby Robson's side the lead with a wonderful half-volley after a dominant first-half before Shearer extended United's lead in superb fashion.
The prolific striker drifted out to the right and after latching onto Rob Lee's pinpoint pass, placed a stunning side-footed volley into the top left-hand corner past a frozen Peter Schmeichel.
United added a third eight minutes from time to round off a fine team performance as Bellamy grabbed his tenth goal of the 2001/02 campaign after firing the ball between the legs of Schmeichel in front of a delighted Gallowgate End.
Milner's missile continues unbeaten home run (2006/07)
Goals from James Milner, Kieron Dyer and Antoine Sibierski continued Newcastle's unbeaten start to the new year following a 3-1 victory against Villa in 2007.
The Magpies got off an incredible start as Milner struck from 18 yards after five minutes, lashing the ball beyond former Sunderland shot-stopper Thomas Sørensen to score his third goal in four Premier League outings, before Dyer headed home Newcastle's second two minutes later.
Ashley Young, making his Villa debut, pulled a goal back for the visitors in an enthralling first-half following a dangerous corner from Gareth Barry.
Sibierski confirmed a fifth home win in seven unbeaten league matches on Tyneside after hitting Villa on the break in the dying seconds, with the Frenchman being teed up by Damien Duff before firing the ball beyond Sørensen.
