Matty's memorable Premier League debut (2019/20)

Matty Longstaff marked his Premier League bow with an unforgettable match-winner as Newcastle United earned a 1-0 victory against the Red Devils at St. James' Park.

It was the stuff of dreams for the Geordie midfielder who, at just 19 years old, drilled home a low finish in front of the Gallowgate End to cap off an impressive top-flight debut for his boyhood club. 

Playing alongside older brother Sean in the middle of the park, the youngster was unfortunate not to score in the first-half after rattling the crossbar with a fierce effort from distance.

On his 400th game in charge in the Premier League, the much-needed victory also ended Steve Bruce's 22-game winless run against his former club, with whom he won three Premier League titles as a player.

 

Howay 5-0 (1996/1997)

One of Newcastle United's greatest Premier League victories, the Magpies inflicted an unforgettable 5-0 thrashing against Alex Ferguson's side, which contained the likes of goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, David Beckham and Eric Cantona to name a few.

Darren Peacock sent the Magpies into an early lead against the Premier League champions before David Ginola's terrific strike from distance doubled Newcastle's lead before half-time.

After prolific forwards Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer added further gloss to the scoreline, on a day when Newcastle would have taken one goal, it was Belgian fan favourite Philippe Albert who sealed the win in style with an 'absolutely glorious' lob which sailed over the helpless Schmeichel.

 

Cabaye's moment of brilliance (2011/2012)

Newcastle began the new year in impressive fashion after sealing a 3-0 win against the Red Devils under the lights at St. James' Park. 

Demba Ba's excellent hooked finish - his 15th goal of the campaign - sent United into the lead at the break before Yohan Cabaye extended the home side's lead with a wonderful long range free kick minutes after the restart, which crossed the line via the underside of the crossbar.

United maintained a creditable clean sheet after Wayne Rooney's strike was blocked on the line and Dimitar Berbatov struck the post for the visitors before Newcastle added a third in stoppage time as Man United defender Phil Jones diverted a long ball from goalkeeper Tim Krul into his own net.

 

Seven goal thriller as Keane sees red (2001/02)

Newcastle came out on top in a 4-3 triumph at St. James' Park, with manager Sir Bobby Robson marking his 100th game in charge of the Magpies with an entertaining victory against ten-man Man United.

Laurent Robert gave the home side the lead with a tremendous left-footed free kick after five minutes and despite Ruud van Nistelrooy's equaliser for the Red Devils, Rob Lee's speculative shot restored Newcastle's advantage before the break.

Newcastle's chances of a unexpected victory were increased as Nikos Dabizas added a third for the Magpies but quick-fire goals from Ryan Giggs and van Nistlerooy levelled the clash.

With both sides continuing to push for a winner in a pulsating meeting on Tyneside and it was Newcastle who grabbed a late fourth as Shearer's shot in front of the Gallowgate End deflected past goalkeeper Fabian Barthez before Man United captain Roy Keane was sent off after an infamous altercation with Shearer in the final minute.

 

Big Dunc's wonder strike silences European champs (1999/2000)

Four years on from the famous 5-0 victory in 1996 - Newcastle pulled off another memorable home win against Sir Alex Ferguson's Champions League holders, this time running out 3-0 winners.

The Red Devils' 1999 treble-winning side fell behind through Duncan Ferguson's marvellous hit for the Magpies, striking a sweet volley from the edge of the penalty area despite facing the wrong way.

Pantomime villain Roy Keane was brandished a red card midway through the second half which proved to be a key factor in the contest as Alan Shearer netted a brace to round off the win.
