After taking the lead, Newcastle fell to a third consecutive away loss after conceding four second-half goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fabian Schär's free-kick gave the visitors the lead before Ben Davies' header drew Spurs level before the half-time whistle.
Goals from Matt Doherty, Son Heung-Min, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn confirmed the rout for Antonio Conte's Champions League chasers whilst reminding United their job to secure Premier League status was far from finished.

Chris Wood's first goal at St. James' Park lifted Newcastle ten points clear of the drop zone whilst Guimarães excelled in his first start on home soil.
The New Zealand frontman, who became his country's all-time top goalscorer in March, looked to have sent the hosts into a first-half lead but saw a goal chalked off after Guimarães was narrowly offside in the build-up.
However, the physical forward netted the eventual winner from the penalty spot after being bundled over by Wolves goalkeeper José Sá, cooly dispatching the spot-kick in front of the Gallowgate End.

Guimarães' brace, including a 95th minute winner, saw Newcastle come from behind to seal a dramatic stoppage-time victory against Brendan Rodger's Foxes.
Ademola Lookman sent City ahead after finishing off a well-worked corner routine before Guimarães equalised with a scrappy close-range finish, which required a thorough VAR check.
With the full-time whistle approaching, the Brazilian midfielder sealed maximum points after getting onto the end of Joe Willock's cross, following a marauding run from the substitute, before guiding his diving header into the net to spark wild celebrations at St. James' Park.

For the first time since Sir Bobby Robson's team of 2003/04, Newcastle recorded their sixth successive home win at St. James' Park courtesy of Miguel Almirón's stunning finish.
Almirón, who scored his first United goal against the Eagles in December 2019, fired the hosts into the lead in stunning fashion after racing onto Guimarães' terrific pass, bursting past Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell before placing the ball into the top left-hand corner.
The victory, witnessed by club chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, took United onto the 40-point mark with five games to spare.

Joelinton marked his 100th Premier League appearance with two goals as Newcastle sealed four Premier League wins in a row for the first time since April 2018.
The Brazilian midfielder continued his bright form after bagging a brace within six first-half minutes, opening the scoring before slotting the ball home from close-range.
Guimarães extended United's advantage after the restart in terrific fashion, pouncing on Krul's pass before producing a delightful chip over the former Magpies goalkeeper.

Naby Keïta's strike proved the difference for Jürgen Klopp's Reds, targeting an unprecedented quadruple, with referee Andre Marriner waving play on despite Fabian Schär staying down following a collision with James Milner.
Martin Dúbravka kept the hosts in contention for a positive result with a string of key stops as Newcastle were unable to find a breakthrough past the title challengers.
