Magpies youngsters Adam Campbell and Callum Roberts have joined neighbours Gateshead on emergency youth loans.

The pair will link up with the Heed - who are again challenging for promotion from the Skrill Premier League having lost to Cambridge in last year's play-off final - for an initial month-long spell which will take them both up to Valentine's Day.

Pacy forward Campbell, who turned 20 earlier this month and remains the youngest player to represent the Magpies in European competition, has already spent time on loan with Fleetwood and Hartlepool this season.

He also had temporary spells with Carlisle and St. Mirren last term.

Wideman Roberts, 17, made his senior debut for United as a late substitute in the recent FA Cup defeat to Leicester having shone at youth and second-string level this term.

Both players were born in North Shields and will be available to play for Newcastle if required under the terms of their loan.

Fellow Magpies youngster Tom Heardman has already spent time on loan at the International Stadium this season, but his spell was cut short by injury.
