World Cup Begins For Magpies Pair

Curtis Good and Gael Bigirimana were in action for their countries as the FIFA Under-20 World Cup kicked off in Turkey

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Curtis Good and Gael Bigirimana were both involved for their countries as the FIFA Under-20 World Cup got underway in Turkey.

On Saturday, defender Good captained Australia as they drew 1-1 with Colombia in Trabzon. Daniel de Silva, the highly-rated 16-year-old who plays for Perth Glory, opened the scoring for the Socceroos but Jhon Cordoba equalised with 12 minutes left.

Australia's second group game is against El Salvador on Tuesday.

Bigirimana, meanwhile, started on the bench as England kicked off their campaign against Iraq in Antalya on Sunday and watched as the Young Lions roared into a 2-0 lead through Liverpool's Conor Coady and Middlesbrough's Luke Williams.

Ali Faez pulled one back from the penalty spot before Bigirimana came on for his England debut in the 89th minute.

However, in the third minute of stoppage time Ali Adnan rifled home an equaliser, with Peter Taylor's team next in action against Chile on Wednesday.
