Woodman Sits Out Of England Draw

Written by Newcastle Utd

Freddie Woodman was rested as England drew 2-2 with hosts Portugal in their second game of the Algarve Tournament

Having kept a clean sheet as England under-17s beat Holland in their opening match of the Algarve Tournament on Wednesday, Newcastle's young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was rested for Friday's second game against Portugal.

West Ham's Sam Howes got the nod between the posts at the Estadio Algarve as coach John Peacock made several changes to his line-up against the hosts.

Middlesbrough midfielder Callum Cooke gave the Young Lions a 33rd minute lead from the penalty spot after Manchester United's Demetri Mitchell was fouled.

Diogo Goncalves equalised but Cooke scored his second in the 77th minute.

Anthony Oliveira's late equalised meant the spoils were shared but England can still win the tournament if they beat Germany in their final game on Sunday.
