Newcastle United Women's Football Club will play on the St. James' Park pitch on Monday, thanks to Wonga
Wonga.com has given Newcastle United Women's Football Club (NUWFC) the chance to showcase their skills in a special exhibition match at St. James' Park as part of its sponsorship of both the men's and women's football clubs.
The digital finance company has donated its allocated fixture slot from Newcastle United's end-of-season Play on the Pitch scheme to the women's club, giving the ladies of NUWFC's first and reserve teams the chance to bring their respective seasons to a conclusion in style.
The one-off fixture between the first and reserve teams will take place at 7pm on Monday (12th May) and will see the ladies swap their home pitch at the University of Northumbria Sport Development Centre for the surface and facilities used by their male counterparts in the Barclays Premier League.
In August 2013, Wonga became the first Newcastle United sponsor to create a partnership with both men's and women's clubs.
As part of the deal, the company has contributed to all matchday travel and training costs incurred throughout the season, as well as providing match and training kit. Wonga also arranged for Magpies star Cheick Tiote to pay NUWFC a surprise visit at a recent training session in April (pictured).
Lee Devlin, NUWFC chairman, said: "It's a dream come true for all our players and staff. The match between our first team and reserves will be a great game for fans old and new. We would like to extend our thanks to Newcastle United and Wonga for making this happen."
Wonga's Darryl Bowman added: "We are delighted to be able to offer such a fantastic opportunity to our partners, Newcastle United Women's Football Club.
"When we signed the deal with Newcastle United, one of our objectives was to work with the wider community and our partnership with NUWFC has been a great success."
Access to the fixture is free-of-charge and entry will be via the Bar 1892 entrance in the Milburn Stand.
