Wonga Away Day A Huge Success

Written by Newcastle Utd

Wonga.com flew 40 lucky Magpies' fans to Cardiff for Saturday's 2-1 victory, and the trip has been hailed as a huge success

Newcastle United sponsor wonga.com flew 40 lucky Magpies' fans from Tyneside to Cardiff for Saturday's 2-1 victory.

The supporters were greeted on the tarmac at Newcastle International Airport by former United stars Peter Beardsley and Steve Howey, who accompanied the group to the match at the Cardiff City Stadium, answering questions and signing items throughout the day.

Digital finance company Wonga ran the Away Day competition on their dedicated Newcastle United fan site, www.wongafootball.com/nufc, giving all Club Members the chance to enter.

The prize included two match tickets, seats on the return flight, coach transfers to and from the stadium, in-flight refreshments and gift packs. The winner of an on-board quiz also received a signed 2013/14 Newcastle United shirt.

The Wonga Away Day is part of the Club sponsor's commitment to fans in trying to help address the challenges faced by travelling supporters. Saturday's trip was the first Away Day of the season, so keep an eye on www.wongafootball/nufc to enter the next competition.

To round off the day, Newcastle put in a fantastic away performance to claim all three points against a battling Cardiff City side, courtesy of two first half goals from in-form striker Loic Remy.

Competition winner Helen Dobson said: "What a day! Every tiny detail had been thought of and it was outstanding.

"I can't thank Wonga enough. It was a day that I will never ever forget as a Newcastle fan and I am certain my dad feels the same.

"Going to Cardiff to see my team play in itself is fantastic but to be able to do it in the style Wonga provided was out of this world."

Former Magpies' front man Peter Beardsley agreed, admitting: "All in all it was a fantastic day, aided of course by a positive result on the pitch.

"The programme put together by Wonga was fantastic and the organisation of the whole day was first class from the moment we arrived at the airport right through until we arrived back in Newcastle at 8.30pm.

"It was a great day for the fans who travelled with us and we enjoyed the banter with them on the journey. With the team playing so well, Steve and I were very grateful to be a part of it. A big thanks to everyone at Wonga."
